The Adult Study Centre at Hastings United Football Club is run by Hastings College and provides opportunities for adults in the local community to gain nationally recognised qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy, as well as in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). These courses can assist you in progressing your career, or simply help to better your daily life.
Courses are run between Monday and Friday, from 9.30am to 3.30pm, with 'drop-in' assessments available at 9.30am and 2.30pm. All students will receive an interview and an assessment, which will help to identify the correct starting level for their studies.
The Literacy and Numeracy courses are provided free of charge, and are available to start from entry level, right up to GSCE equivalent standard.
The ESOL courses are open to persons living or working permanently in the United Kingdom, including refugees or asylum seekers in receipt of benefits. European Union citizens are automatically eligible for places on the ESOL courses, with other foreign nationals also being accepted in certain cases. ESOL costs £2.20 per hour for European Union citizens, but is free for all other students.
Also currently on provision is a Level 2 Community Sports Leaders Award that is available to all members of the local community wishing to gain a nationally recognised qualification, and experience as a sports leader. This course is not aimed at any specific sport, so students with an interest in any sport at any level are encouraged to apply. The course is aimed at adults aged nineteen and above, who are not in full time employment.
During the course, students will benefit from the guidance of a dedicated tutor and mentor. Upon completion of the course, the mentor will help students secure a work experience placement, leading to a paid appointment in a related sports field. There are up to twenty places available on the course, which will run for one day per week for five to six weeks in total, with the start date of the course scheduled for the week commencing November 3rd. Interviews and enrolments will take place at the Study Centre, Hastings United Football Club, every Thursday morning between 10.00am and 12.00 noon.
There are plans to run additional, non-accredited learning courses from the Study Centre in the near future, and more details will be provided when available.
