After a two year gap, the Club has confirmed that it has this week accepted a challenge from a team made up of United supporters to once more play an end of season fundraising friendly.
The date for the game has been set for Friday, May 4 at the Pilot Field, kicking off at 7.00pm, after which First Team boss Sean Ray will join Chairman Dave Walters and his fellow Directors for a Fans' Forum in the Clubhouse.
The revival of the Supporters' Club XI fixture has been instigated by John Wright, who skippered his side in the 2010 match, and he has agreed to run an auction, in which interested parties can bid to win a place in the U's side itself, or to take Sean's place in the home dugout as manager. Please contact John directly on 07768 553916 if you would like to make him an offer.
John has advised that Alan Green has kindly offered to take on refereeing duties for the game, with Dave Stevens and Dean Jinks as his assistants. The Clubhouse bar will be open throughout, as will the tea and burger bar. The admission price will be £3 for all adults, and free for under 18s.
At the conclusion of the game, which will be forty minutes each half, all supporters are welcome to join the question and answer session, when Sean will take the opportunity to outline his plans for the 2012/13 campaign, including the proposed addition of a Development Squad.
Sean, Dave, Simon Rudkins and Dave Murphy will then field any questions or concerns from those present, with the session being chaired by Pat McCrossan, in his guise as the Club's Supporters' Liaison Officer. Anybody who wishes to pose a question, but who will be unable to attend on the night, is welcome to email it to Pat - patfooty@hotmail.com - and he will not only ensure that it gets answered, but will also email the response back.
A summary of the questions and answers will also hopefully appear on the website in the days after the event.
